Why Acapulco ?
Acapulco, the queen of Mexican beach resort, is the birth-place for the Mexican tourism – it showcases the carefree, carnival atmosphere for which Mexico is famous!
It has dazzling discos, bars, clubs and “ Las Vegas , Mexican-style” atmosphere (but without the gambling).
Acapulco is where the world-famous cliff divers are!
Acapulco weather is almost always sunny, hot and humid.
Dry Season: November to April: 30-32 ºC/ 86-90 ºF ; Moderate humidity Rainy Season: May to October: 31-34 ºC/ 88-93 ºF ; High humidity; Rain – 0 to 3 times per week.
Where to stay?
While Acapulco has accommodations for every taste and budget, we suggest you to stay in at least, a 4 star resort. The Fairmont Acapulco Princess is located on 480 magnificently manicured, beach front acres. Tucked away on Revolcadero Beach, 20-minutes from the bustle of downtown and a few minutes from the airport, the 15-story Aztec pyramid-shaped building, gardens, pools, golf course and more cater to the desires of the world's most discriminating guests . It is ranked as one of the world’s best resorts.
Hotel Continental Plaza is located next to the Playa Suites in the heart of t he Costera Beach area. The meandering, moat-like pool, complete with an island and surrounded by lush gardens, is one of the most beautiful in town.
Meet the world-famous cliff divers yourself! Head to la Quebrada and enjoy the Cliff Divers Show while dining in an elegant and fancy atmosphere at La Perla. It is located on the cliffs of la Quebrada. You can also experience the unique opportunity of admiring the pictures and signatures of the rich and famous who have been to see the cliff divers – in the “hall of fame”.
Avenida Miguel Aleman, also known as the Costera, is the heart of Acapulco ’s resort strip and home of nearly all of Acapulco ’s high-rise hotels, non-stop nightlife, dining and shopping. The Costera continues north along the bay toward Old Acapulco and the aging but partially renovated downtown area.
Acapulco beaches:
Playa Revolcadero/Playa Diamante – a long flat stretch of open ocean beach (backed by an enormous tropical lagoon) is now home to the Mayan Palace , the Tres Vidas Golf Course and several high-rise apartments. Water sports of all kinds, waverunners, ultra light airplanes and horseback riding are available here. Because of the high waves, this is a great area for surfers.
Puerto Marques – a local favourite! This tranquil bay is lined with tin-roofed restaurants serving up fresh seafood, beer and tropical drinks. Calm water – great for swimming!
Don’t miss the spectacular Acapulco Bay – a mountain-framed natural harbour that rivals Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong for natural beauty.
Where to eat?
As most of the packages to Acapulco are all-inclusive, meals are included. If time allows, take a night or two and try the local Mexican dishes. La Perla – dining and dancing to live music with great view of the cliff divers, at the Plaza Las Glorias. Carlos & Charlies – Acapulco ’s most popular spot, serving good food at reasonable prices with wild waiters and fun, chaotic atmosphere.
There are plentiful of taxis but they’re non-metered. Taxis are charged based on an established, authorized rate that is posted in your hotel lobby. Hotel taxis are more expensive than those roaming the streets. Frequent, inexpensive bus service is available along the Costera (the resort’s main boulevard). It is about 5 pesos each way.
There are also brightly decorated, horse-drawn carriage (know as calandrias) that stroll along the Costera – about US$15 per half an hour).
