Why Cozumel?
Cozumel is one of the most popular diving destinations in the world – it has dazzling coral reefs, abundant variety of tropical fish and crystal clear water – you don’t have to be a diver to enjoy it!
Cozumel has good weather “year-round” – daily air temperature is 27°C. Water temperature ranges from 25°C-28°C. Hurricane season can occur from June to October but in today’s world, the weather condition are changeable so, you may want to check the weather if you’re planning a visit at this time.
Where to stay?
While Cozumel has accommodations for every taste and budget, we suggest you to stay in at least, a 4 star resort. We recommend Allegro Cozumel by Occidental is located at the south area which is close to fine beaches and the famous reef. If you are a beach fan and into snorkeling and diving, this is the place for you! Grand Cozumel by Occidental is located on the beautiful San Francisco beach (just five minutes by boat to Palancar Reef) so is ideal for divers and water lovers.
Are you a diver? – Checkout the underwater wildlife yourself! Palancar Gardens has gentle currents, lush plants and marine-life. You will never run out of reef! (Best at 40-70 feets) Santa Rosa Reef is the best known and most popular wall dive in Cozumel ! Spectacular coral overhang, the structure is dazzling. Swim through from the wall to the sand side make for a fascinating dive. (40-3000 feets)
Not a diver? No worries – Cozumel has beautiful beaches – here are a few you could consider:
In the West coast: Playa San Francisco is famous for its clear stretches of never ending white sand and its crystal clear water.
East coast is well-known of its long, quiet beaches, shells and waves. There are three nice, nearly deserted beaches – Punta Morena, Punta Chiquero and Chen Rio.
If time allows, you may want to take the ferry and visit Cancun for a day or two.
Where to eat?
As most of the Cozumel ’ packages are all-inclusive, meals are included but if you can, take a night or two and try the local restaurants as Cozumel offers delicious seafood! Get yourself surrounded by tropical aquariums at the Acuario restaurant and enjoy fresh seafood (approximately US$30 per person excluding drinks). Rock over to Carlo’s n’ Charlie’s at night, join in the drinking contest and enjoy American style ribs. It is an open-air club so remember, dress cool.
To get around the area, affordable taxis run regularly – average fare from the hotel zone to San Miguel is about US$5. While most tend to stay at the hotel zone, there are “Mexico Water Jets” that can take you from Playa del Carmen to the Cozumel island in about 35 minutes. They are air-conditioned ferries with comfortable seats. About US$10 per person.
There are island hopper flights that could take you to Cancun too. You may want to consider this option ONLY if you stay more than a week in Cozumel.
