Why Los Cabos?
Is it because Los Cabos, Latin America ’s premiere golf destination, is the home for PGA Senior Slam and has earned its place in the international golf arena?
Los Cabos is a “year-round” destination . It offers 11 months of rain-free vacation which is perfect for golfers and water sport lovers! January through March is the perfect time for whale watching so if you’re planning to see these “beautiful giants”, this is the time.
Where to stay?
While Los Cabos has accommodations for every taste and budget, we suggest you to stay in a 4 star hotel at the very least. Royal Solaris is located on a wide sandy beach and is 10 minutes away from downtown San Jose del Cabo. Hacienda is located on the Fonatur golf course. 5 minutes walk to downtown San Jose ; 10 minutes to beach and swimming.
Golf golf golf! What sets Los Cabos apart from other golf destinations is the Sea of Cortez – endless sparkling water reaching as far as your eyes can see… Try Cabo del Sol golf course – designed by Jack Nicklaus – hand carved out of the side of the desert shore that lines the Sea of Cortes . It is ranked 68 th in Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 courses in the world” and touted as “the best piece of golf property I the world”.
Have you ever been surrounded by a dramatic cactus desert backed by cinnamon mountains and bordered by miles of white sandy beach and clear, azure waters?! Join a land tour and visit remote desert, mountain and ocean areas by ground or air transportation. Tour information is usually available at hotel’s front desk.
Don’t miss the gray whales and humpback whales when they make their journey of over 10,000 miles to bear their calves and frolic in Pacific Coast lagoons to the north of Los Cabos. Many continue all the way to the Sea of Cortes . Whales can easily be seen from shore (in season – usually from January through March) or take a half day boat excursion. Looking for actions?! Wave runners, parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, skiing, surfing, deep-sea sport fishing… Los Cabos has it all. The area is world renowned for its deep-sea sports fishing, with over 50,000 marlin and sailfish hooked each year.
In general, dining tends to be on the expensive side (as compared to other Mexico destinations), since nearly everything has to be brought into the region (except seafood). Mocambo – probably the best seafood in Cabo! A trye favourite among locals – very busy but worth it. Mi Casa is a colourful Mexican restaurant with a courtyard setting. Fresh tortillas made before the patrons’ eyes, good food – closed Sundays.
How to get around?
There are plentiful of taxis that could take you around. Between Cabo and San Jose the fare is, roughly, US$30 each way.
While taxis are readily available, they can be expensive for trips to outlying attractions. Consider renting a car for these journeys. Be sure you have the following documents ready and remember, you MUST have Mexican Auto Insurance for driving in Mexico :
We suggest you to contact the car rental company upon arrival to find out the latest requirements.
