Why the Mayan Riviera ?
It is because the Mayan Riviera has so much to offer:
The Mayan Riviera is a “year-round” destination. Most people prefer to travel to the area in winter to escape from the “snow and cold”! Hurricane season can occur from July to October but in today’s world, the weather condition are changeable so, you may want to check the weather if you’re planning a visit at this time.
Where to stay?
While Mayan Riviera has accommodations for every taste and budget, we suggest you to stay in at least, a 3-plus star resort. We recommend Iberostar and Riu’s Palace as they are well located and have a lot of facilities. Barcelo Maya Beach Resort offers a wide variety of dining and entertainment options so bring your bathing suits, sunglasses, bestsellers and relax!
What distinguishes the Mayan Riviera is its diversity – from golf and adventure, jungle tours on foot or horseback, water sports to touring the indescribable cultural and archaeological treasures of the Maya world, the Mayan Riviera has it all! A favorite activity is scuba diving on the Great Maya Reef, the second-largest in the world, located along the Maya Riviera’s coastline. The spectacular tropical marine life is unique and unforgettable.
Nature lovers?! You must visit one of the eco-archaeological parks in the Mayan Riviera:
As most of the Mayan Riviera’ packages are all-inclusive, meals are included but if you can, take a night or two and try the local Mexican dishes. Karen’s Grill & Pizzeria is a lively bar/restaurant with great Mexican grilled seafood/meats and pizza. Live music every evening – great place to hang out! Senor Frog’s is located right next to the ferry pier – great barbecue, lots of shrimp dishes and fun waiters!
How to get around?
Taking buses is the most economical way to get around the area and yes, it is safe to take buses in Mayan. If you’re lucky, you might get some live entertainment – a group of kids may decide to give you a rendition of a few Mexican songs or may be a solo guitarist, and is nice if you can give them a few pesos as appreciation. At night, we recommend travelling by “taxi”. It is easy as taxis are all over the town but remember to negotiate the price upfront before you close the door.
